Grok & Cursor Watch: grok-imagine-image-quality retires on November 2
Series: Grok & Cursor Watch · 28 September 2026 (JST)
Summary
xAI's API release notes, published September 27, 2026, say the grok-imagine-image-quality slug will be retired on November 2, 2026. After that date, requests to the slug will be served by grok-imagine-image-2.0 with quality set to low. xAI states that the request and response shape will not change and that the per-image price will be lower. The grok-imagine-image (1.0) slug is not affected. The notes link a migration guide for the change.
Why it matters
Callers can keep using the grok-imagine-image-quality slug, but those requests will be handled by a different model at a fixed low quality setting. The unchanged API shape and lower price are vendor claims in the release notes, not independently measured results. Teams that depend on current image quality should review the migration guide before November 2, 2026.
